It is not that those putting forth such bizarre arguments are dumb. It is an indisputable fact that no one would have died if there was no passenger on that train! Would we then say, “Oh God, had you been located in Bengal, then the pilgrims won’t have been killed in the accident?” That would be as laughable as saying poor migrant labours won’t have died if they got jobs in their states. Supposing that all those who died in the mishap of 2nd June were pilgrims going to Madurai or Rameswaram. The question is, how is that related to the cause of the accident? That has nothing to do with whether the train had passengers or not, or whether the passengers were poor Bengali labourers or rich Gujarati merchants. That most of those who were killed in the accident were from West Bengal is not disputed. Only today, in an op-ed article in a leading English daily, the author argues that because West Bengal suffers from a very precarious unemployment problem, a large number of migrant workers from that state were travelling in an unreserved compartment of the ill-fated train so, many of them perished in the accident. Unfortunately, already attempts are afoot to muddy the water and score as many political brownie points as possible from out of the tragedy.Ī fact is being twisted in a manner that almost amounts to blaming the State of West Bengal for the deaths of so many people from that state who were travelling in the Coromandel Express that met with the accident. It is so refreshing to see true collaboration in progress.Tears of the members of the families of the nearly three hundred victims of the Balasore train accident of 2nd June 2023 have not yet dried up. The Collaboration consists of representatives from the Psoriasis Association and the Mental Health Foundation Dr Sandy McBride, Consultant Dermatologist, Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust Dr Christine Bundy, Senior Lecturer in Behavioural Medicine, University of Manchester and psoriasis patient, comedian, writer and broadcaster, Toby Hadoke.
